Instead of crowded beaches we propose a tranquil spot to relax and recharge your batteries.
Treat yourself to this freshly renovated former farmstead comprising two houses. It is located in the shepherd village of Vale, right at the foot of the mountains and the Transalpina, the highest road across the Carpathians. On the one hand, far away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, on the other hand, just around the corner of Sibiu, the European Capital of Culture in the heart of Transylvania.
We have carefully brought the farmhouses back to life. With a great deal of patience, attention to detail and respect for its builders, preserving and restoring everything that could be saved. You'll find peace and quiet here, unspoilt nature, a breath of the past, and the oldest primeval beech forest in Europe on your doorstep.
For more information please visit our multilingual website www.casa-vale.net through the link “book online now” on the right. There you'll find detailed descriptions of all our 7 cottages, villas and holiday flats, photo galleries, virtual tours, guestbooks - and of course the rates, avalabilities and booking conditions.
is our latest jewel, ideal for family holidays and groups. The former farmhouse is located in the hills above the shepherd's village of Vale. The view extends over wooded mountains and down to thne plains of Transylvania.
The property consists of a 142-year-old, fully renovated wooden house (2 double rooms) and a also renovated brick house (another 2 double rooms). Between them you'll find a cozy courtyard, partially covered by grapevines, with a south-facing terrace and a summer kitchen.
The holiday farmstead can accommodate up to 8 (or even 10) people, at a special rate during its first year of rental in 2026.
The special atmosphere can be felt in every corner. With patience and a keen eye for detail, we have awakened hidden treasures from their decades-long slumber and carefully added modern design elements. Now, this cottage is well suited for families with children on their holiday in Romania. And it's great choice for anyone who prefers the taste of tradition and lifestyle of bygone times, rather than splashing around in the chlorinated pool of a 5-star hotel.
You enter the old farmhouse via the external hallway and reach the spacious living room with open kitchen, tiled stove and seating for up to 10 people. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with a fridge-freezer, electric cooker, dishwasher, kettle, espresso/coffee machine, toaster and plenty of crockery, spices, soaps, etc. Two dormer windows provide the living room with light and morning sunshine from above.
On the south-facing terrace in the courtyard, we have built a second kitchenette, which is also fully equipped, but with a gas hob and no fridge. It is based on the traditional way of life in Transylvania, where summer life and work mostly take place outdoors. The second bathroom, located right next to the terrace, follows the same idea.
All four bedrooms feature double beds, antique wardrobes, tables and stools. The larger room in the brick house offers a corner bench for playing games on rainy days. This house also has a new shower room and a kitchen with a small fridge, but no cooking facilities. In summer it is empty – so you have several cupboards and wall units for your food supplies – and in winter we will move the dishes and cutlery from the summer kitchen over here.
From the outer hallway, a staircase leads to the rustic attic. Here you can relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the impressive view of the village and the surrounding mountains bathed in sunshine.
Fast WiFi is available throughout the courtyard via fibre optic cable, and each room has an LED TV with cable and satellite connection for receiving public and private German channels. Upon arrival, you will find the beds freshly made and bath, hand and kitchen towels provided.
Hot water is generated by a solar system, and heating is provided by a gas boiler in conjunction with a tiled stove, which supplies a buffer tank via built-in water pipes and, through this, all radiators in the house. The interaction runs automatically. All you have to do is set the desired temperature on a room thermostat and you don't have to worry about anything else. Firewood is included.

Here you will find traditional houses and villas scattered in the pastoral village of Vale, right at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. A perfect place to escape from offices and urban exaggerations. And an excellent choice for lovers of untouched nature, who prefer to wander through intact forests and taste a pinch of rural serenity, instead of splashing around in the chlorinated pool of a 5-star hotel.
We are located in the special area of the Marginimea Sibiului, called the 'home of shepherds'. Due to the special mixture of Daco-Roman architecture and traditions, Saxon fortified churches, traditional crafts and unique local gastronomy, the region has been declared a 'European Destination of Excellence'. On the one hand in the middle of nowhere, on the other hand only traditional houses and villas scattered in the pastoral village of Vale, the 'European Capital of Culture' in the heart of Romania.
The village nestles on a mountain slope overlooking the vast Transylvanian plain. It is touched by a tarmac road but there are mostly cobblestoned streets and dirt trails leading up into the hills. There you walk through the oldest beech forest of the continent to reach the mountain meadows with its unique flora and fauna, where your neighbors will be sheep and horses grazing freely.
We offer two spacious villas for special demands, four cottages renovated in a traditional style, and a small but comfortable apartment. All homes are self catering accommodations and spread in the village. They have been built from scratch or refurbished from old farmhouses by our own villager-based construction company within nine years of intense work.
We combined local building styles and craftsmanship with contemporary materials, proceeding always with attention to detail and respect towards the traditions of the area. It was a pleasure to watch the cottages grow and their souls revive, while preserving the simplicity of bygone times.
The result is an encounter of different ages and cultures in five oases of well-being, each of them having their distinctive and special ambiance in a place which - as we hope - will remain for a long time spared from the hustle of civilizational imbalances.
Each home has a fully equipped kitchen for self catering, high-speed Wi-Fi, a washing machine and at least a terrace. The two villas also offer a living room with fireplace and a garden with barbecue and parking. Exceptional cleanliness awaits you everywhere.
See you soon in Vale!
