Rejoice in gorgeous natural settings as you explore the unique attractions of the Land of Volcanoes in the Easthern Carpathians!
In one of the twin craters of the Ciomad Mountain lies the special nature reserve Mohos Peat-Bog. During a guided tour, this is the best place for admiring fantastic botanical rarities, such as vegetation from the ice age, including carnivorous plants.
Then we visit Central Europe`s only volcanic tarn, the charming Saint Anne Lake, with a surface of about 950 m above sea level, formed in the other crater of the Ciomad Mountain. Its charm for tourists is rooted in the legends surrounding this place, the extraordinary landscape, the healing properties, it is also a great place to get in touch with nature and relax. Here you can go boating on the lake or simply have a nice walk around.
After exploring these natural attractions, we ride 10 km to the wild and enchanting Balvanyos Resort, with an abundance of mineral waters, baths and fumaroles (here called moffets). The inhabitants of the area have used these natural resources in curative purposes for hundreds of years. We can climb up to the Sulphurous Cave, which is the world’s most active moffet, daily emanating more than 4000 m3 gas.
On the forest trail we go down to the Apor Daughters’ Bath, where we find mineral springs with chemical composition considered to be unique in Europe. Here you will find various natural feet soaks which are very fizzy, like a jacuzzi, due to the continuous gas emanations.
After exploring these attractions you can optionally go bear watching in the wild at dusk or join a tasting tour at a local brewery.
