Overview

In Apuseni Nature Park, famous for the beauty and diversity of the karst landscape, wild nature appears in all its grandeur. Gorges, waterfalls, glades, karst springs, potholes, caves and underground glaciers, endless spruce and beech forests.

A trip in the Padis Karst Plateau area, one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in the country will provide, for sure, a unique experience. Because the karst landscape is the result of the interaction between water and limestone, during this trip we will follow the route of a creek that connects, in a way, two spectacular and full of charm tourist spots Ponor Glade – with its picturesque Ponor Karst Spring – and Ponorului Fortresses Karst Complex.

Ponor Glade – a polija, in karst terms – is a large glade surrounded by heights covered with spruce forests and crossed by a creek that “miraculously” disappears in the underground through several drainage holes situated in the river bed.

Ponorului Fortresses is, with no doubt, the most impressive karst phenomena in Romania. Formed by three huge rocky sinkholes hidden in an immense forested depression, 300 m deep and 1 km wide, hosting on of the symbols of the Western Carpathians karst – the 70 m high gothic cave portal in Sinkhole I.
