Casa Ratiu is a member of the European Historical Houses Association. Our original Ratiu family home is a collection of restored historic buildings in the centre of Turda, clustered around a lush courtyard beside a charming stream, providing guests with a quiet, luxurious and comfortable home away from home to relax and enjoy a weekend break.
Built in the early 20th century, the Ratiu House in the centre of Turda was acquired in 1927 by Dr. Augustin Ratiu, future mayor, a respected lawyer, and President of the local Bar Association. Sent to the infamous Black Sea Canal by the communist regime in 1948, he eventually returned to find his wife and daughter confined to one dark cellar in the courtyard of his now nationalized home.
His eldest son, Ion Ratiu, a lifelong opponent of both fascism and communism, himself a lawyer and journalist, returned to his home here in 1990, after 50 years exile mainly in the UK and US. That same year he ran for President in Romania’s first free post-communist election. One of the activists of Romanian entry to NATO in 2007, he served his country as vice-president of the Chamber of Deputies and Member of Parliament until his death in 2000.
As one of the oldest families in Transylvania, we proudly showcase our prominent family members in Casa Ratiu. Therefore, you will find a story and unique design in every room. All rooms combine traditional rustic elements with a contemporary feel and harmonious colors. We are known for our comfortable beds, we went the extra mile to provide them with toppers, quality pillows and quality cotton bedding.
At Casa Ratiu, you can enjoy a buffet breakfast of good quality food, which will give you a nutritious boost, to enjoy your day outdoors with the right amount of energy. It includes croissants, cakes, fresh bread, fruit juices, coffee, as well as hot and cold dishes.
Free wireless internet is available on the entire property.
Most of our rooms are equipped with air conditioning units.
Parking is available on the public domain, close to our property the rate depends on the hours/length of time for which the customer opts, there are street parking meters where you can pay for parking.
We provide video surveillance for the parking in front of the Guesthouse. Motor bikes can park on the property.
We are not set up presently with kennels for pets.
Guests with locomotive challenges will be offered access to the ground floor rooms on the property premises. Please let us know when you are booking a room.

Cleaning
Will be daily provided as usual; guests also have the option to limit staff access to their rooms and clean these themselves if they wish – cleaning products will be provided if requested.
Smoking
Smoking areas are provided in the courtyard. All rooms are non-smoking.
How can I book a room?
You can check room availability on our website and follow the steps to book the one you select online. We also accept phone bookings.
How can I pay?
Payment on arrival, either cash (RON) or credit card. Throw Bank transfer in advance.
Do you take credit cards?
Yes, we are set up to take credit cards for your convenience.
How can I cancel my booking?
There is no charge for cancellation 7 days prior to arrival. We charge the first night of accommodation if the booking is canceled in the last 7 days before arrival.
Are there vegetarian options in the menu?
We have both vegetarian and vegan menus. We will also prepare meals for specific dietary needs. Please submit your request in advance.
Can I also have lunch and dinner at Casa Rațiu?
We would be delighted to serve you lunch or dinner and have a daily menu available for you to select from.
Is there a kitchen available?
We have a kitchen available for your use on the ground floor of Casa Rațiu as well as a high chair for children available.
Are there children beds available?
We have a child’s cot available as well as extra beds that can be fitted into a number of our rooms at request. Our housekeeping team can easily organize this for you.
Can I bring my pet?
We do not have the necessary accommodations at this time.
