The house was built in 1903 on a traditional technique combining wood, hay, manure and clay. It's decorated according to the local traditional style, the same way locals used to decorate their houses in the past century and all the textiles and most of the furniture are inherited from my grandmother. The blue colour is representative for traditional houses around the country from Transylvania to Dobrogea.
We're glad to welcome you in our cozy place and to share with you a part of our culture.
I am happy to welcome you in my cozy, traditional blue house from 1903.
My name is Marina (somehow as the name of the village), I am a documentary photographer passionate about culture, visual anthropology, vernacular architecture and art. I moved back to my home village in 2020 and I am happy to live in my grandparents house, with my two goats, my cat and my chickens.
My parents bought this beautiful house in 2015 and we restored it according to the original and local architectural style. The interior is decorated with my grandmother's inherited textiles and some of her furniture. Our initial plan was to create a village museum, but we became so close to this place that we wanted to give it life by inviting people to live here for short periods of time. It is a place that quickly makes you feel like home.
Here used to live three sisters, to keep each other company at their old age, the last of them passed away at the beginning of the 2000s. The fountain on our property is as old as the house and the water is very good.
The house is situated in the center of the village, near the church (so you might hear the bells on Sundays), approximately 200m from a local shop and 6km away from Penny, Profi and restaurants.
During the summer, a herd is passing by the street every morning and evening, and it's a moment that our guests like to watch and photograph. Unfortunately every year there are fewer cows and buffaloes and an ancestral tradition is slowly dieing.
Both dormitories, kitchen and bathroom have a wooden stove where you will have to make the fire on cold days, but we are happy to help and teach you do it, and of course we provide you wood. On the property there is also a library where you can have bonus access if you are looking for a place to work or read - I use to find my inspiration for writing and painting here.
On Tuesdays and Sundays there is a local market happening in Crasna from 7:00am to 12:00am, where locals from Marin and the villages around it sell their products - such as milk, cheese, vegetables, eggs, even bikes, antiques and vintage/second hand clothes. We encourage you to visit this multiethnic universe (Romanian, Hungarian, Roma) and to buy products from small fermers.
If you would like to experience some of the local gastronomy we can give you some contacts of few of our "grandmothers" who are glad to meet new people and share their "not-so-secret-anymore" secrets from the kitchen.
Since we live in a rural area, in our yard you will meet some bugs and singing birds, our friendly chicken (you can have eggs) and our cat Annette, who absolutely loves to cuddle and to sneak into your bed if you're not paying attention. We have old neighbours and this is one of the reasons why we don't encourage parties in the property, but I hope you understand it. We live in a small community where everyone knows everyone, so if you are staying longer than a few days and if you like to interact with people it is very likely that you will make acquaintances. Otherwise, the property is intimate, with a high wooden gate and natural fence around it, so you can spend your days and evenings on the yard without being bothered.
If you are a family with kids we can discuss about kids activities and painting workshops, or if you would like to visit the area I would be glad to be your local guide.
!!! Very important: We require an extra care for our furniture and textiles.
This is the reason why also smoking inside the house is completely forbidden.
