Wine tourism in Transylvania
Villa Rihuini is a traditional Saxon guesthouse located in one of the most charming villages in Transylvania, Richiș (Sibiu county).
The German name of the village - Reichesdorf - alludes to the richness of these places. The surrounding hills were in the past the home for vast vineyards, occupying more than 300 ha. Moreover, the many orchards and sustainable agriculture practices contributed to the fame of this Saxon village.
Neither is our guesthouse named by chance: Villa Rihuini, as the village was first mentioned in Latin historical documents, will offer you a truly enchanting experience of Transylvanian wine tourism, in pure spirit of this age-long local tradition.
Our family grows the largest and one of the last noble vineyards in the village, and has laid the cornerstone of local, rural ecotourism, with over 30 years of experience.
We make wine using original tools and equipment, and the entire process is by hand, just as it used to be back in the day. Therefore, a vacation here will not only bring you the joy of local wines, crafted with care, hard work, and passion, but also the opportunity to support the further development of our village's winemaking tradition.
Stay in an almost two-century-old traditional house
At Villa Rihuini you will stay in a traditional Saxon house, restored by our family with the help of local craftsmen, using 100% ecological materials (linseed oil, natural wax, water-based paint, lime and water whitewash).
The furniture has also been carefully restored, in order to preserve its authentic charm, typical for Saxon craftsmanship. Also, most of the decorations are handcrafted.
Our guests will be accommodated in three double rooms, with separate access. The house includes two indoor bathrooms (modern, this time) and two fully equipped kitchens.
The courtyard is full of flowers, from early spring till late autumn. The s and perfume of tulips, roses, honeysuckle, and many other seasonal flowers complete the picturesque scenery of Saxon households. A true small paradise.
Here you can relax in a hammock, in the handcrafted porch swing, by the camp fire or in the restored barn. In the evenings, you may enjoy dinner along a glass (or two) of our wines, or organize small parties and private events. In the morning, coffee or tea can be accompanied by a delicious, organic breakfast.
Our household's cook is one of the most skillful and experienced in the village. You may certainly expect to have a taste of the local authentic cuisine, based on ingredients grown in our own garden or in the surrounding area.
One of our purposes is to support local producers, as we believe this is the only way to develop a sustainable community.
Other activities in Richiș, at Villa Rihuini
We can rent you bikes for exploring the surroundings, with spectacular landscapes and medieval sites characteristic for the region. The trails marked by Colinele Transilvaniei are also perfect for hiking. We can also organize horse-cart trips to our vineyards, the nearby sheepfolds or neighboring villages.
We offer local wine tastings, campfires with brandy and sizzling bacon, and other locally flavored entertaining activities.
And since you are here, you may pay a visit to the closest neighboring village, Biertan. There you will find the most visited rural citadel in Transylvania, a renowned UNESCO World Heritage landmark.

Amazing house and family
We stayed for 3 nights as a family of 6 (4 children under 7years). The truly beautifully restored Saxon house was comfortable, clean and a wonderful experience to stay in. Alex our host was so welcoming and kind. His mum made delicious breakfasts and dinner, and the family wine went down very well! He also organised a fantastic horse and cart ride for us. The children loved the garden and exploring up the hill behind the house, as well as around Richis.
We would highly recommend this stay to anyone who is looking for an authentic Saxon experience, time with wonderful people, or to reconnect with nature.
Girls getaway in beautiful Transylvania
We stayed at Villa Rihuini for an extended weekend and enjoyed what our guest and Richis have best to offer - quiet, no urban noise, re connection with nature, local cooked delicious food, a beautiful Saxon house and lots of sun.
Nice experience, nice people
Me and my family stayed in Richis at Villa Rihuini for two nights and we enjoyed every moment that we spent here. Alex and his family made us feel like home. The food was excellent and we enjoyed the home made wine. Alex provided us useful information about the location and about what can we do and what we should definitely visit. All provided information helped us to enjoy our stay here in Richis and we had the opportunity to visit the surroundings (Alma Vii and Biertan). The house and the decorations made me travel back in time in my grandparents house to remember my childhood. This experience was great also for my kids who discovered a lot of interesting things around the house and in the attic.
I stayed at Vila Rihuini for one week. I went there to have an online mindfulness retreat by myself. As one of my friends put it, I donșt think I could have chosen a better place for having my retreat. Surrounded only by sounds of nature for the entire week, I loved how I was given the chance to reconnect to myself and to my inner wisdom.
The hosts made sure that I was properly fed, even if this was a silent retreat, so I could not communicate properly my needs. The food was amazing and the hosts are lovely! Definitely will visit again, next time for trails and forest tours!
We stayed at vila Rihuini two nights and it was a great experience. The food and the wine were great and the hosts were very welcoming and helpful. I really recommend, beside staying there, to ask for dinner and breakfast.
