The village

The village of Cris is situated 12km southwest of Sighisoara in a southern side valley of the river Tarnava Mare. It was founded by the Bethlen family and first documented in 1305 by a will issued by the Chapter of Alba Iulia, stipulating the arrangements with regards to the division of the assets of the family.

The Houses

Caretaker’s House

The first house we acquired was the residence of the Bethlen Estates’ caretaker before the wars. Situated adjacent to a Renaissance granary opposite the Manor House and a short stroll from the Castle, the Caretaker’s House is perched on a hill overlooking the village. Great care was taken over its restoration to preserve its old character while adding some modern elements for our guests’ comfort. It sleeps 8 people in 4 double bedrooms with en suite bathroom. Our ultimate aim is to make our guests feel at home, to actively want to spend time in the house, to enjoy a good book, a glass of whiskey or wine, and to spend quality time with family.

The Depner House

We acquired the Depner House from a Saxon family who had emigrated to Germany and abandoned it. This too has been renovated with the utmost care, bringing it back to its original state, using the original windows, doors, and colour scheme. It sleeps 4 people in 2 double bedrooms with en suite bathroom. The old adjoining barn has been restored and turned into a conservatory with a library and an open fire place. (Opening 2021)

The Kitchen Barn

Acquired together with the Depner House, the Kitchen Barn has been renovated to its original proportions and appearance. Inside we fitted a kitchen and a comfortable dining room, which seats up to 30 persons. We added a terrace so our guests can enjoy meals and drinks outside.

The Corner Barn

Acquired from another Saxon family who had left the village many years ago, we turned the Corner Barn into a wonderful cottage that sleeps 8 people in 4 double bedrooms with en suite bathroom. With this building too, it was restored following and respecting the local architectural tradition. (Opening 2021)

Our resident staff – led by Erzsebet with the help of Tatiana and Sorin will see to all of  your needs  and will offer the following free services during your stay

• A welcome drink such as champagne, wine or homemade brandies
• Breakfast includes (from 08:00 onwards): coffee, tea, a wide selection of ham, sausages from local producers, soft-boiled eggs, scrambled or fried eggs, cereals, fruit, a range of home-made jams and freshly baked bread.
