I am Daniel Les and I’ve been kneading the clay from Maramures for 40 years. I am a ceramics artist, I cherish traditional pottery and I’ve been receiving visitors in my workshop from Casa Olarului these last 20 years. I think my purpose is to pass on the love for traditional crafts and the simple lifestyle of our parents.
All my life I’ve been having the passion for keeping old objects which I believe to be part of history. As a kid, I started my collection with some objects found in the attic of an abandoned house. When they saw me collecting old objects, old people started to bring them to me, to help me increase my collection, with the hope that they will make it to museums. And they ended up in our home, where they have admirers as if they were in a museum.
Parents and children come to us and they say: “Look, your grandmother had a wooden bucket just like this one. She used it when she was making bread”. I also hear riddles: “What do you think this is? What do you think this is for?” It seems like what we created at Casa Olarului in Livada attracts a type of people whom I enjoy meeting.
I gather old houses: some people like to turn something old into something new because they were not taught to cherish tradition, wood, objects passed down from generation to generation, so they demolish old houses to make new ones. We found some families that were in this situation so we bought their houses.
We started with a house built from stone and wood which needed a new rooftop, we renovated it and remodeled it by adding 2 bathrooms, a room in the attic and we decorated it with old objects. This is “Casa de Piatra”.
On the ground floor there is a bedroom for 2 people and a living room (passage room) with double sofa bed and a bathroom. In the attic there is a bedroom with a double bed and a single bed and a bathroom.

A clay house from 1870 followed- peasant, low, with wooden beams and a slightly lower roof. We did some minor repairs and repainted it, replaced the floors, added a bathroom, but most importantly, the summers are cold and the winters are warm because of the thick walls made of mud. It is a pleasure to sleep in “Casa de Lut”.

The third one is “Casa de Lemn” and we dismantled it with the help of a craftsman and brought it to our orchard on the hill where it will stay for a while. The wooden house has a triple room and 2 quadruple rooms.
You can only book this house entirely and the price varies by number of guests.
